Iron Golf Swing
Help with some things to keep in mind during a golf swing?
I used to play golf when I was younger, but stopped. Now i started again in mid-april. I am 18 and can hit a solid drive around 295, and hit strong irons. But now i'm working on swinging easier. I can hit my 60 degree through 8 iron 100% of the time within a few yards either side of center. Once i get down to lower clubs, i experience occasional problems. Unfortanetly, one swing i might hit a weak shot very fat, and another i might skull it thin and over the hole. many of my dads friends who i've played with said that based on my first hole and swing (i always do good on #1) they thought i was around a 2. but my inconsistency is the problem. The problem is tho, my misses are big misses, i either hit the target two feet from the hole or......well i dont hit it well. Anything to keep in mind as i swing? i already have many ideas that i've been told, but im hoping one of you has a suggestion to try. i'll vote best answer as soon as i see one that shows some thought.

Dr. Bob Rotella (amazing golf author) has a great analogy that applies to all swing thoughts. A basketball player shooting a free throw is, at least mentally, very similar to a golf swing. There are no defenders in his face, and all he must do to succeed is replicate a motion that he has practiced thousands of times. Before he shoots, does he stand at the line and think about his wrist angle at the point of release? Not if he wants to make it! He gets his head out of the way with a sound, repeatable pre-shot routine, checks his target and fires away. If you want to put it in one phrase, all you need to do is "train it and trust it." Spend some time on the range, and I'm sure someone of your skill level will start grooving those long irons after a few hours of practice. Once you get out on the course, don't think about all the times you've botched those tough long iron shots, think about how you were knocking down those flags on the range, and fire away!
