Is it OK to use a car battery in a gas powered golf cart?

I've got an old Cushman (1970 I'm told) gas powered golf cart that I'm fixing up. I want to add lights, radio, PA system and such to it for use in events. The battery that's in there now is like a tractor battery, maybe 2/3 the size of a decent car battery. I want to change the battery, but I also do not want to overload the charging system in the cart. Does anyone have any input on this?
It's a 12V battery/system in it now.

As long as it is a twelve volt system and a twelve volt battery, it does not matter.
